Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
How many compatible internal drive positions does the TS-h1887XU-RP-E2336-32G-US profile provide?
QNAP documents 18 native positions: The exact guide lists twelve 3.5-inch and six 2.5-inch SATA positions. 3.5-inch trays support 3.5-inch SATA HDD or 2.5-inch SATA SSD; the 2.5-inch trays list SATA SSDs. Do not treat all positions as HDD slots. The guide lists hot-swap for all family positions. Check exact drive/firmware support. A count does not establish usable capacity or an exact compatible drive; check QNAP’s current list for each model and firmware.
Explore this need in the finder →Is the TS-h1887XU-RP-E2336-32G-US profile the same CPU and memory configuration as its family siblings?
No. This exact profile lists Intel Xeon E-2336, 6 cores/12 threads and 32 GB ECC DDR4. The English guide specifies 2 x 16 GB ECC DDR4 UDIMMs in four slots, with 128 GB family maximum. Confirm full model suffix and installed modules; specifications do not predict application performance.
Can the listed configuration use a two-drive mirror, and is one preconfigured?
QNAP’s exact software selector lists RAID 1 for QTS and QuTS hero. These are alternatives; the buyer chooses one, purchases two exact compatible drives and creates the pool. QNAP’s package list does not include data drives or an initialized array. A two-member mirror can tolerate one member drive failure but is not an independent backup.

The chassis is 2U and the English U.S. guide lists 2 x 550 W redundant supplies; RAIL-B02 is a listed compatible rail family. Data drives and rails are not in the standard package listing. Check the latest QNAP drawing, rack-post depth, rail fit, cable bend, airflow, loaded weight and independent power feeds. Current product and Store wording says five years but the guide says three; verify written terms for the exact delivered configuration.
Explore this need in the finder →Assessment basis: This review is scoped to QNAP TS-h1887XU-RP-E2336-32G-US. QNAP’s U.S. Store direct product page and the current U.S. hardware selector identify this 32 GB configuration; the English-U.S. guide separately lists its E-2336 order code. This is a document-based assessment only. It does not verify a seller’s added components, present stock, price or individual warranty terms. The U.S. product family page and exact hardware selector are the best sources for checking a later revision: model page and hardware profiles.
Hybrid 18-bay storage in a two-rack-unit chassis
The TS-h1887XU-RP has eighteen native SATA positions: twelve for 3.5-inch devices and six smaller 2.5-inch positions. QNAP lists the 3.5-inch trays for 3.5-inch SATA hard drives and 2.5-inch SATA SSDs, and the 2.5-inch trays for SATA SSDs. This is not an eighteen-HDD system; select media by tray type. The guide lists hot-swap support across the family, but individual disks still need exact model-and-firmware verification against QNAP’s current compatibility information. Position count is neither included capacity nor a guarantee of a supported drive combination.
QNAP specifies a 2U rack form, two 550 W supplies and four 60 mm fans in the English guide. Its installation section lists the RAIL-B02 as compatible, but rails and data drives are not named in the standard package list. The current rendered hardware selector’s dimensions differ from the guide. Do not rely on an old chassis measurement as the cabinet’s clearance: check the current QNAP drawing, rail adjustment range, post spacing, rear connectors and cable bend, ventilation and loaded rack weight. Redundant power does not equal two independent paths if both supplies connect to one circuit or PDU.
Why this package is E2336/32G—not just an h1887 label
This configuration combines an Intel Xeon E-2336, six cores and twelve threads, with 32 GB ECC DDR4 UDIMM. QNAP’s guide identifies the installed memory as two 16 GB modules and shows four memory slots with up to 128 GB in the family. By comparison, the separately listed E2334-16G-US has a four-core/eight-thread E-2334 and 16 GB, while the current U.S. selector also exposes an E2336-16G profile without an independently established -US Store SKU in this research. Those are different configured profiles, not synonyms. Confirm the full suffix and delivered memory before using a retailer’s summary to plan VMs or other services.
The added CPU cores and installed memory may matter for workloads that actually need them, but they are not a benchmark. No QNAP published test result is transferred to this exact package as expected performance, and no independent measurement was made. If your plan includes virtual machines, file indexing, backups or multiple services, establish each application’s minimum and recommended RAM/CPU requirements first. A maximum-memory number does not promise that all modules will be supported in a particular revision; check QNAP’s approved memory references and installation instructions.
Built-in network choices and expansion
QNAP lists dual 10GBASE-T and dual 2.5GbE RJ45 interfaces. The maximum for one built-in Ethernet port is 10Gbps. Two 10GbE ports are two interfaces; they do not become a guaranteed 20Gbps link to one client. A client, switch, cabling, drive layout and workload must also sustain a transfer, and link aggregation does not assure a single flow at the combined rate. Three PCIe Gen 4 slots (two x4, one x8) offer optional expansion only after checking compatible adapters and other hardware constraints.
Set up RAID only after choosing QTS or QuTS hero
QNAP’s current software selector lists the model under both QTS and QuTS hero, with RAID 1 supported in each 8-bay-and-larger table. They are alternative OS/storage plans, not concurrent profiles; the product page warns that moving from QuTS hero to QTS requires removing drives. Decide which system and filesystem suit the actual task before initializing an array. The English guide and the general OS documentation describe RAID 1 as a two-disk mirror that can tolerate one member disk failure while the other remains healthy.
Neither the standard package list nor the user guide lists data drives or a factory-configured pool. A buyer may install two compatible SATA drives and create a RAID 1 plan, using two of eighteen native positions and leaving sixteen physically open. Do not read that arithmetic as a tested grow-in-place path for every OS or pool design. The mirror is not a substitute for backups: it can mirror deletion or corruption and does not cover loss of the full chassis, site or credentials. Plan a separate copy and verify a restore. No specific compatible drive model was verified here.
Package, rail and warranty questions remain important
The family guide names the RAIL-B02 but the standard package contents do not name a rail kit or data drives. Check the full E2336-32G-US suffix, exact seller bill of materials, rails, cabling, any optional cards and drive purchases in writing. The warranty language is not reconciled: the 2024 English guide gives three years of limited coverage, while current QNAP product and Store wording state five years. That is a source conflict, not a promise for a particular offer.
This configuration is a reasonable research candidate when eighteen mixed-format native positions, a 2U rack, built-in 10GbE and 32 GB ECC memory fit an actual workload. It should not be chosen solely because the E2336 has more cores than the E2334 variant; weigh the known application demand against the exact package and installation requirements. The official image is the exact family chassis but does not visually distinguish E2334/E2336 CPU or 16/32 GB memory, nor prove installed disks or rails. There are no claimed hands-on use, installation results, measured power/acoustics, customer reviews or availability checks.
