Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
How many internal drive positions does the TS-h1886XU-RP-R2-D1622-16G (U.S. selector profile; retailer suffix/package not verified) profile provide, and are they interchangeable?
QNAP documents 18 total internal positions: 12 x 3.5-inch SATA positions; 6 x 2.5-inch SATA SSD positions. Their drive formats differ as described in the exact media compatibility note. This count is not a usable-capacity or all-HDD claim. Check exact disk/firmware compatibility before purchasing.
Explore this need in the finder →What is the fastest individual built-in network port on this profile?
QNAP documents a single built-in Ethernet port rated up to 10 Gbps: 4 x 2.5GbE RJ45, 2 x 10GbE SFP+. Port count does not make a single connection faster; the switch, cable, client and workload must also support the desired path. This is a link rating, not a throughput test.

The current QNAP software selector lists RAID 1 for the TS-h1886XU-RP R2 family. For this 16GB selector-only profile, the seller package contents and preconfigured-pool state are not established. If the buyer obtains two compatible 3.5-inch SATA drives and chooses one OS, the family supports a two-drive mirror. Confirm the delivered full suffix and package; RAID is not an independent backup.

Intel Xeon D-1622 (family CPU; selector profile); 4 cores/8 threads; 16GB installed memory. Published CPU and memory specifications do not prove a workload-speed advantage. This is a 16GB U.S. selector profile only: an exact Store SKU and retail package have not been verified. Do not substitute a similarly named 32GB package.
Identity caveat: QNAP's current U.S. rendered hardware selector exposes a 16GB ECC DDR4 profile for the TS-h1886XU-RP R2 family. This is not a verified U.S. retail SKU in the research record: the U.S. Store identity established for the family is the D1622-32G-US package, and the English U.S. guide also lists only that 32GB part number. This review preserves the selector observation without pretending that a seller's 16GB bundle has been found.
What the family evidence supports
The shared TS-h1886XU-RP R2 design has eighteen internal positions: twelve 3.5-inch SATA trays and six 2.5-inch SATA SSD slots. The large bays list compatibility with 3.5-inch SATA HDDs, 2.5-inch SATA HDDs and SATA SSDs; the smaller six are described for SATA SSDs. The English guide says the drives are hot-swappable. These are family-level hardware facts, not evidence of the exact contents of a hypothetical 16GB retail package. Check QNAP's current supported-drive list and inspect the full model suffix on any offer before purchasing.
The current QNAP product page lists four 2.5GbE RJ45 ports and two 10GbE SFP+ ports through the preinstalled dual-port card. The English guide's summary table is internally inconsistent: it says “4 x GbE RJ45,” while the detailed diagram labels each of the four as 2.5GbE and the current product page agrees with the diagram. Treat the discrepancy as a reason to verify the hardware revision, not as permission to assume an unverified port speed. A single 10GbE SFP+ interface is the fastest supported link; the switch, DAC/optics, cabling and client still need to fit, and link speed does not predict file throughput.
16GB selector memory is not 32GB package evidence
The current U.S. selector shows 16GB ECC DDR4 as an available profile. The separate English guide describes the 32GB D1622-32G configuration, with Intel Xeon D-1622 at four cores/eight threads, 2 × 16GB DIMMs, four memory slots and a 128GB family maximum. It does not establish how the 16GB profile is populated, which exact retail suffix it uses, what accessories are in its box, or whether a seller's 16GB label describes the same hardware revision. Do not transfer a package detail from the 32GB Store version to an unidentified 16GB listing.
At the family level QNAP describes QuTS hero and QTS alternatives, RAID 1 support and a warning that switching from QuTS hero to QTS requires drive removal. Two compatible drives may be used in a buyer-created mirror; the six SSD slots and twelve large bays give media-specific choices. The actual support of the selector-only profile is not enough to claim a configured array or a retailer's exact setup. A mirror is not a substitute for a separate backup.
Procurement decision
The hardware family is a 2U rack chassis with dual 550W supplies and RAIL-B02-compatible rails sold separately. The guide lists no data drives and describes the 32GB package's standard contents, but those contents cannot be assigned to the 16GB selector-only profile. Ask the seller for a photographed label, complete SKU, installed memory details, warranty terms and complete included-items list; compare the answer with QNAP's U.S. support page before ordering. Search links for this page should be understood as an exact model-text search, not a verified exact listing.
This entry is useful when a buyer wants to assess the lower-memory selector configuration alongside the documented 32GB SKU, but the identity gap makes it a weaker procurement choice until resolved. The official family image shows the 12 large front trays and does not show the 16GB setting, rear SSD positions or package. No seller identity, price, availability, ownership, test or customer experience is claimed.
