A useful fit for

A current-reference four-bay desktop NAS scenario for a buyer who specifically wants four native SATA positions and a built-in Ethernet port rated at 5 Gbps. A possible owner-created RAID 1 pair uses two native bays and leaves two positions unused; the four M.2 NVMe slots are a separate storage layer.

The main tradeoff

A 5-Gigabit figure is a port link rating, not a file-transfer guarantee; two ports or SMB Multichannel do not become one 10-Gbps port. A supported optional 10GbE card is not included or built in, and its installation requires removal of the M.2 daughterboard. The listed package contains no data drives or initialized array. Verify exact disk/firmware compatibility, seller package and channel terms; RAID 1 is not a backup.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does AS6704T v2 meet a four-native-bay requirement?

Yes. ASUSTOR's product-ID-95 hardware page lists four native 2.5-/3.5-inch SATA positions. Its four M.2 2280 NVMe slots use a separate interface, so they do not raise the native SATA count; a five-bay floor excludes this model.

Does AS6704T v2 have one built-in port rated at 5 Gbps?

Yes. The exact specification lists two separate 5-Gigabit Ethernet ports, each supporting lower link modes. This is a link rating, not a measured transfer speed or one 10-Gbps port. The optional 10GbE card is not built in and its installation removes the M.2 daughterboard.

Can a four-bay AS6704T v2 meet a 5-Gbps, two-drive-mirror scenario together?

The documented profile supports an owner-created SATA RAID 1 arrangement with two selected compatible drives and one individual 5-Gigabit Ethernet link. The mirror uses two of four SATA positions, leaving two positions physically open; the package list includes no data drives or prepared volume. M.2 slots are separate, exact drive/firmware compatibility remains a check, and a mirror does not replace an independent backup.

Source-based model assessment · English-language ASUSTOR evidence checked November 2, 2026

The ASUSTOR LOCKERSTOR 4 Gen2+ (AS6704T v2) is manufacturer product ID 95: a four-bay desktop NAS with two built-in 5-Gigabit Ethernet ports. The suffix matters. ASUSTOR separately lists the older LOCKERSTOR 4 Gen2 (AS6704T, product ID 77) and a two-bay LOCKERSTOR 2 Gen2+ (AS6702T v2, product ID 94). Those are different configurations, not interchangeable names. The exact U.S. retail suffix, seller offer and retailer-added package were not verified for this assessment.

Four native SATA positions, plus a separate M.2 layer

The exact product-ID-95 hardware page identifies four internal 3.5- or 2.5-inch SATA positions, and four M.2 2280 NVMe slots on PCIe 3.0 x1. The product page describes the M.2 positions for cache, storage or a mixture. They are different connectors and should not be added to the SATA count: this is a four-native-bay NAS, not an eight-bay one. For a four-bay shopping requirement, count the SATA positions and then plan the M.2 devices separately.

ASUSTOR lists a 72-TB raw-capacity reference calculated as four 18-TB drives, with a warning that capacity varies by RAID type. That is arithmetic based on the stated drive size, not a claim of 72 TB usable in RAID 1, proof that a particular drive is currently compatible, or a promise that disks ship in the box. ASUSTOR directs owners to its drive-compatibility materials. This review did not establish an exact model-and-firmware drive pair, so that lookup remains a pre-purchase check.

A mirror is an owner-created plan, not a prepared volume

The manufacturer specification lists SATA single-disk, JBOD, RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6 and RAID 10 options, with some spare-drive arrangements. The four-bay case has a practical two-drive RAID 1 possibility: if an owner chooses two compatible drives and creates that layout, it uses two of the four SATA positions and leaves two physically unoccupied. This is an assessment of a documented arrangement, not an included configuration. The package list contains no data disks or initialized storage volume, and the buyer still has to select drives, initialize the NAS and confirm the precise compatibility entry.

A mirror can preserve access after a single member drive fails under the documented RAID 1 arrangement, but it does not protect against every loss event. It is not an independent backup against accidental deletion, malware, theft or damage to the whole unit. Plan a separate backup copy and check the initialization instructions before using disks that contain data.

5 GbE is an individual link rating; 10 GbE is optional

ASUSTOR lists two built-in Ethernet ports, each rated up to 5 Gbps and compatible with lower 2.5-Gigabit, Gigabit and 100-Mbps link modes. If a buyer's requirement is one built-in port rated at least 5 Gbps, this exact profile meets that stated threshold. At a 5.5-Gbps minimum for one port, it does not. Two separate 5-Gbps jacks are not one 10-Gbps jack, and neither a negotiated link rate nor SMB Multichannel proves a particular file-transfer speed.

The product page promotes SMB Multichannel across multiple ports, which requires a suitable client, adapters, network equipment, cabling, software configuration and storage workload. ASUSTOR also documents an optional PCIe 10GbE card for the four-bay Gen2+ series. The card is not built in or listed in the package, and the model datasheet says installing it requires removal of the M.2 daughterboard. That trade-off matters if a buyer wants both the add-in network option and all four M.2 positions: do not assume they are simultaneously available. The optional card does not change the model's built-in single-port ceiling in this finder.

Compute and connectors for a mixed home or studio role

The hardware table specifies a quad-core Intel Celeron N5105 at 2.0 GHz with burst up to 2.90 GHz, 4 GB of DDR4-2933 SO-DIMM memory and a listed maximum of 16 GB in two slots. ASUSTOR lists HDMI 2.0b, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports at 10 Gbps and a separate rear USB 2.0 Type-A port. The manufacturer describes virtualization and Docker software support, but this assessment makes no application-speed promise and includes no independent performance test.

The box also occupies a physical installation space: the manufacturer lists dimensions of 185.5 × 170 × 230 mm (H × W × D), which helps compare enclosure footprint but does not include the room needed for cables, air movement or access to trays. Check the shelf, outlet and network path where the NAS will live. The published 90-W AC adapter is a power-supply rating, not the amount the system will draw in every configuration.

What the listed package does—and does not—say

ASUSTOR's product-ID-95 package list names one AS6704T v2 unit, a Quick Installation Guide, AC power cord, AC power adapter, two Cat 5e RJ-45 cables, sixteen flat-head screws for 3.5-inch drives and sixteen for 2.5-inch drives. It does not list data drives, an initialized RAID array or the optional 10GbE card. A reseller could add items, but this review does not identify or validate any such bundle. Compare the exact full model label and seller bill of materials before ordering; a listing title that drops “v2” is not enough to bridge the two generations.

Who should keep it on a shortlist?

This model is a plausible research match when the required hardware is four native SATA bays, one built-in 5-Gbps Ethernet port and, if desired, an owner-created two-drive RAID 1 plan. It is a poor match for a requirement of five native SATA bays or one built-in Ethernet port faster than 5 Gbps. An optional add-in card is not the same as an installed built-in port, and the documented card installation displaces the M.2 daughterboard. The four M.2 slots do not change the SATA-bay threshold.

Before comparing an offer, verify the full product identity, selected drive models and firmware, current M.2 list, network equipment and cabling, intended volume layout, package contents, return terms and channel-specific warranty. ASUSTOR's support table marks the AS6704T v2 Generally Available with software and technical support Supported and lists three warranty years; that manufacturer status is not proof of a seller's live stock or transferred local warranty. Manufacturer hardware and datasheet pages also disagree on reference power-consumption and weight figures; neither set is presented here as a measured result.

Primary records checked for this model: ASUSTOR product page, product ID 95, hardware specification, package contents, the model-specific English datasheet and the AS67XXT v2 Quick Installation Guide. No hands-on use, ownership, laboratory test or independent measurement is claimed.
